Conceptual Inspiration: work by Rene Francois Ghislain Magritte

Hat form cut sheets

Located on 57th Street and Madison Avenue, the SvdL Showroom is the principle retail space for a designer of couture hats and shoes. The owner desired both a comfortable setting in which to meet with her clients and a space in which she could hold salon-like evening gatherings. To realize the project within the client's aggressive budget and schedule, Bade Stageberg Cox developed a reconfigurable, CNC milled, display system of prefabricated components that support the unique, hand-made quality of the products. BSC took inspiration from the surrealist images of Magritte, and the anthropomorphic quality of the head molds used in the milliner's trade.
